Gig Announcement - Echo Lake Support

We are very pleased to be able to announce that we will be supporting the really rather wonderful Echo Lake for our next show in Oxford, at the Bullingdon Arms on Thursday 18th October.
This is part of their Uk tour and if you aren't familiar with them then check them out other here. They genuinelly are one of our favourite new bands and  we believe we're correct in stating that this is their first Oxford show!
You can get advance tickets at this link which we would recommend as they are cheaper. Expect a Facebook event (of course) and times, details and news on the other support act nearer the time.

Autumn

Hello all,
Apologies again to anyone who was planning to come to our show in Brixton on 29th July which we unfortunately had to cancel at the last moment.
However, the good news for Londoners (and others) is that our next show will be as part of the Pindrop/Club Fandango 'Best of Oxford' nights which are bringing Oxford bands to the Buffalo Bar in Highbury en mass. We will be playing on Tuesday 25th September with good friends Secret Rivals and fellow Oxfordians Deer Chicago.
Entry will be £4 in advance or with a flyer and £5 on the door and we will be onstage at around 8.30pm.
There is more info on the club fandango website and there is a facebook event so you can publicise your decision to attend to friends and associates.

Radio/Brixton coming up

So as a last little bit on our Upstairs gig for BBC Introducing, Emma and Sophie were interviewed after our show on 16th June. You can listen again at this address for the next 5 days (until Sunday 1st June).

In related news, the date Sophie was looking for in the interview was Sunday 29th July, which is when we will be playing the Brixton Windmill; a pub outside which both Sophie and Grill once played football with We Aeronauts, and which was notable for Sophie's inability to keep her shoes, on her feet while playing!
More details over at the Brixton Windmill site funnily enough.

Upstairs/the big city/thanks

Well on Saturday we played at the Upstairs night at the o2 Academy in Oxford in Association with BBC Introducing in Oxford (exhale).
We had a great time and it was great to get back on the stage for the first time in a couple of months. Thanks to all who came and supported us and said nice words about us, the others bands were of a very high standard also!
Here is a picture below that was kindly taken by Laura.
Our next gig will be in that there London at the Windmill in Brixton, which from experience as punters, we can say is a GREAT place to watch bands. We will be playing on Sunday 29th July and there will be a BBQ around 5 followed by bands. Details on stage times and prices to follow but you can work out how to get there here!

Gig announcement/support you local record store.

Hello all - brief update on the post below, you can now join the facebook event at this address and also buy cheaper tickets through our very own personalised link!!!

We are very pleased to announce that we will be playing Upstairs in Association with BBC Introducing at the O2 Academy in Oxford on Saturday 16th June.
The Upstairs nights have been great thus far and have provided many great Oxford bands with a chance to play at what was the Zodiac (Alas!).
We will be playing with Richard Walters, The Family Machine and Listing Ships which is a pretty excellent line-up. We have tickets, if you buy them from us then we get some money. Let us know if you want one.

On another note, I was in the Truck Store today - it's Oxford's only indie record store y'know and I was reminded that they still have copies of our most recent EP 'Legerdemain' available, so why not get down there, have a browse and maybe purchase something (hint hint).

Annnnd we're back.

On Saturday 4th and Thursday 9th February we played our first gigs since March 2011 and our first as a quartet since we opened the Barn at Truck festival 2010.
So how did they go?
Well...on 4th we played at Fusion Arts centre which is located behind the East Oxford community centre on Cowley Road. The nights are run to raise funds for the Arts Centre and all the good work that they do (see http://www.fusion-arts.org/ for more info). These shows are partly organised by our friend Aiden Canaday who is the de facto leader of The Cooling Pearls who opened the night in some style.
We were up next and Soph in particular was very nervous. This may have been because there was a healthy looking crowd in the room at this point and after trudging through the snow (did we mention it was snowing?) and viewing the impressive array of work of local artists on the walls, they wanted more music.
We played a 5 song set featuring oldish songs, (In Orbit and All That Fall) new songs (most of which don't have names) and then Ambulance at the end which got some very welcoming whoops from audience members (thanks for that).
Then we watched We Aeronauts (reliably great even in acoustic mode), had snowball fights and went to the Fir Tree while Mark tried (and succeeded) in getting back to Bicester via public transport.

So, five days later and we prepared to play a show organised by Oxfordshire Music Scene magazine head honcho and all round good guy Stewart Garden. This was with Cat Matador, The Graceful Slicks and Mat Gibson. We were excited as we love The Cellar and have played many (but still not enough) shows with Cat Matador. It went well, Andrew was feeling unwell and pretty spaced out so is not the best judge of the performance but everyone enjoyed it and it (the music) did seem to really be coming together at times. Cat Mat were ace as well and super-tight while Graceful Slicks and Mr Gibson did a fine job of warming up those that had trudged through the snow (did we mention it was snowing again?).

Anyway  "the shows went pretty well thanks" is the short answer. We won't be posting in such depth about every single show we do but these were the comeback ones so we'll allow ourselves the indulgence.
Next up we are giving ourselves the time to hone and write yet more new songs and will be looking to play live again very soon.

See you then and thanks to all who helped/came out to see us.

Gigs - February 2012

Our first gig back is the Pop Up Nights show at Fusion Arts Centre just off Cowley Road in Oxford on Saturday 4th February. It's just £1 entry and as well as ourselves you can see the fantastic Cooling Pearls, The Sumptuous We Aeronauts and loads of great art from Oxford's bright young things.

Next up is a show at one of our favourite Oxford venues (the Cellar) with one of our favourite Oxford bands (Cat Matador) and in addition to that you have The Graceful Slicks and Matt Gibson who are more than worth getting to the venue on time for. Thursday 9th February for this and doors at 7.45. We would encourage you to get tickets from the link over on the right so you don't pay more on the door!

Hello, Good evening and welcome...

...to the new home of The Gullivers on the internet. We are aware by now that myspace is rubbish and if you use one of Facebook, soundcloud etc, you may not use the other. Hence this blog which is where we will post gigs, news and any exciting little tidbits like songs or videos. Look to your right and you will see our upcoming gigs, look lower and you will see our email address. Feel free to use it to get in touch about this blog or anything else to do with the band. It's all common sense really.

Happy reading.

Love
